How Can You Join?We try to make life easy for everyone because we definitely know how busy people are these days. To make it really easy to get more information about our organization we've included a request for information form accessible from this web page. If you would like to check us out before you decide to join our group, you can sign up at any of our events, including our monthly meetings. Our calendar will show you where we'll be over the next few months. We're always available by email and/or voice-mail (402-578-4169) if you would like for someone to contact you to answer questions or send you more information. There is a small but important issue of membership dues - $55.00 for the first year with $55.00 renewal rates in the following years of membership. Who are we?The Millard Jaycees are people - young adults who want to make a positive difference in our community. Millard Jaycees are also friends who have a lot of fun together, whether we are participating in a community service project, planning a seminar, going to a social event. The Millard Jaycees is a leadership training organization for people ages 21 to 40. Much of the leadership training is accomplished through planning and participating in community service and fund-raising activities. Other leadership skills are learned by attending and presenting at individual development and team building seminars, teaching skills to newer members, and serving on the Board of Directors. The Millard Jaycees is not just a local group. We are also affiliated with The Nebraska Jaycees, The U.S. Junior Chamber of Commerce, and Junior Chamber International. These organizations provide additional events and ways to get involved. Come join tomorrow's leaders in action today! What do we do?People join the Millard Jaycees for many different reasons. We offer over 50 events or activities each year so there is something for everyone! You can choose your level of involvement from attending a few activities here or there or you can dive right in and participate several times a week. Whatever your lifestyle or schedule, you will find many interesting activities in the Millard Jaycees. You are welcome to attend some Jaycee events as a guest to see what it's like before joining as a member. The best way to keep track of what's happening is to attend our monthly general membership meeting (GMM), or you can request an issue of the The Spotlight newsletter. Why People JoinYou know how sometimes if you ask 20 people why they do something you get 20 different answers? That's also true in our case when we ask members why they joined the Millard Jaycees. These are the most popular answers: "To Meet People and Make Friends" - This isn't surprising since Millard is a dynamic community and there are always a lot of new people in town. Community Service Opportunities - Where else would you have the opportunity to do such diverse things as hold an auction to support a substance abuse recovery program, fix up a house for an elderly couple or take a bunch of underprivileged kids shopping for the holidays? Flexibility - Your participation depends on your schedule, not ours. You get out of the organization what you put into it and more. You decide what you want that to be. Networking - How many times have you heard "It's not what you know, it's who you know"? As Jaycees we have many opportunities to interact with the movers and shakers of this community including the mayor and a variety of business and community leaders. Our members also come from many different industries and professions and are a great group of people to get to know. Resume Building - Do you want to prove you have project management skills? How about telling your employers that you planned and carried out a parade with over 60 participants which was viewed in person by over 15,000 people? For people who want to make a more formal commitment, members have the opportunity to run for the Board of Directors so they can take a more active role in the planning, running, and direction of the organization. Learn New Skills - We encourage people to stretch their comfort zones and take on things they've never done before. We've had engineers writing press releases and marketing folks keeping our books. We also offer a lot of one day events to teach people things like CPR, massage therapy, Internet basics, car maintenance, and a whole host of other things. |
